Die Cutting Mania - A Very Unusual Surface!

Leather has to be one of my favourite substrates to work with. The Sizzix Bigz Dies make lite work of chomping their way through, leaving a beautiful clean edge.

I ran the Card Case Die through twice and build up my journal, just as you would a card/paper based one.

Then I added the Rouge Adoptions Rub On's onto the cover before using my trusty Speed Bond glue for the assembly as it's strong and grips quickly.

I created mini note books with the gorgeous Rouge Adoptions paper collection from 49&Market. The papers are stunning and compliment the colour of the leather perfectly. The bookplates are from the Library Pocket Die set and of course Eileen's making Plans stamp set lives on my desk!

I adhered the inside pockets ready for the note books.

And then added a hole to the Card Case spine using the smallest hole on the Crop-o-Dile.

I decided to create a fastening by gluing two buttons back to back, so the leather was on the outside. Then I stitched them onto the two smaller spines using waxed linen thread. I tied a piece of ribbon and silver thread to one side and used it to wrap around the other button to create the closure.

Simple but effective.

Gosh I love those Rub On's they are so pretty. You have to take your time applying them to a textured surface but it's well worth it.

To finish off I created a dangle for the spine with Crystal Beads, Jump Rings and of course Buttons, so showing the leather side and some the beautiful pink suede side.

When my friend asked me a few weeks ago if I'd like some leather from her old sofa that was being recycled I jumped at the chance. The old sofa was worn out but the leather on the underside was like new, and an absolutely gorgeous colour.

So did you guess what my unusual substrate was? I can definately say I've never used part of a sofa to create a journal before!

Happy Crafting
