I'd decided that I wanted to create a beautiful clean journal with this stunning hand printed paper, but the journal had other idea's and fought me all the way. So I gave in, the journal won and I took it down the vintage path it kept leading me towards. The spine is cut from matboard covered in gold cardstock. Then using red hemp cord I wove through the pre made holes to create a pattern. I worked my way along from the back adding small turquoise coloured beads through all of the centre holes. It looks a little messy on the back, but this will all be covered over.So down the vintage road we go............... I used an emery bord to scratch into the prestine gold cardstock to give it an ages look. Then carefully using a Versafine ink pad rubbed the ink into the scratches. I wiped any excess off with a tissue.
Although I did take a Pigma Brush pen to the edges to hide the white. The hinges and lock had the same aging process, and again I used the pen to hide any white edges that were visable.
On the inside a trimmed a piece of the Sizzix black cardstock to cover the threads from the spine, making sure it was burnished down. Then out of the same Sizzix cardstock I used the Bookbinding & Label die to create the spine for my pages to be added onto.I trimmed down Strathmore Watercolour card to 4 1/2" x 6" some pages are single but a couple of them are folded in half so I had more pages to play with. I also snipped into the edges of the paper with Fiskars Deckle scissors for a handmade paper look.I stamped and embossed various colour wheels from the stamp set and heat embossed them in gold.I searched high and low for my fancy metallic paints but to no avail, they were hiding. But to my delight this little old el cheapo set of metallic watercolours popped it's head up from the drawer so it was a happy find!
I played with the colours so they are in no order what so ever............But isn't that the whole point they are my colour wheels and they can be any colour I like, and that is the fun or creating art!
