Birds for May - with Eileen Hull Designs

 

 All this month over at Eileen Hull Designs we are sharing our projects created incorporating Birds in them. I love the  Wreath and Snowflake Die and it's not resticted by it's Christmas theme, after all Cardinals are not just here for one Season!

 I started by covering a Pocket Notebook in canvas, and gave it a quick coat of white gesso for tooth.

Then I added a selection of stamps from Eileens releases with Maker Forte, from the Snail Mail Inspiration and Button Cards and More sets using Black Versafine ink to create a random background. Love these stamps and they live on my desk.

I die cut the wreath pieces out of several different shades of the gorgeous Sizzix cardstock. Their colour schemes are always so pretty.

I built up the wreath and added the cardinal and a few stars, then using Bundled Sage Distress ink, I added shading around the edges.

There are three signatures created from tea dyed paper and are plain so I can make notes in the journal. The inside covers are lined with a gorgeous minty green shade again from the Sizzix cardstock pack, and of course there has to be lace and muslin for a shabby look!

Eileen Hull Inspiration Team - Junk Journal

 

So excite to be sharing my "Oh Well" junk journal with you today. I think those words sum up exactly how chilled out I am at the moment!

I few weeks ago I was playing with my Gel Press Plate and decided to do a Notebook cover. Love the way it turned out with all my favourite colours smooshed together.

I decided to create inserts using some sheets from Dina Wakley's gorgeous collage papers, along with some papers left over from our wedding stationery.

I cut out one of the designs from the papers and inked around the edges to use as a focal point on the front cover.

I also inked around the edge of the Notebook using Eileen's Ebony ink.

I cut up my chosen sheets of paper roughly, I like to trim them to size once the have been stitched so they are all the same. I alternate the plain papers sandwiching the patterned ones inbetween, that way there are some black pages in case I decide to add writing to them.

I used good old fashioned clothes pegs to hold the signatures in place whilst I pierced holes in the spines and did a basic phamphlet stitch using waxed linen thread to hold them together. Then I trimmed them down to 3 1/4 by 4 1/2 folded size using a metal edged ruler and craft knife.

Inside the cover I used one of Dina's sentiments, very apt I thought!

 

And to keep the organic arty feel to the signatures I tied them into the spine using soft cotton string.

Pocket Notebook Cover with Belagio Cork Fabric

O do I love this fabric, it's fabulous!

I found a tiny notebook that belonged to my Mum, (she was a stationery addict, who do I take after you ask). I have it on my desk next to me so I can write idea's in, but it's so small I keep loosing it inbetween things, so I decided to make a cover for it.

The cork fabric is just gorgeous, and that hint of gold makes it stand out on the desk so I can see it! I hid a ribbon underneath the frame, so it could be tied closed. And of course I couldn't help but add a little more bling with gold wax.

I kept things simple by covering a piece of Matboard with the fabric and cutting the notebook, making sure it was right upto the edge of the board, so it would leave me a piece leftover that would be big enough to die cut the Trinket Box Frame from.
I tied a piece of brown ribbon around the spine to hold my little book (and a tissue).

I used Rangers rose gold card to cut out the inside covers, and trimmed them down to keep the spine clear, so it would fold.

Just look how tiny my book is, no wonder I kept loosing it, and I love the tiny rusty staples so cute.

So where can you find Belagio cork fabric?

• Hobby Lobby carries packaged cork in 18" x 15" pieces in 9 different patterns in the notions department.
• There are two types - a natural and a natural with gold at Walmart stores that have fabric departments. It is sold by the yard.
• As for the entire collection, many quilt and craft shops around the country carry it by the yard and in packaged 18" x 15" pieces.
• Online the Belagio cork fabric is available on Walmart.com and Amazon.com.

Eileen Hull's Pocket Notebook

I really need somewhere to keep my paint and ink swatches recorded. I'm forever buying the same colour twice, and I must admit I love seeing the rainbow of colours down on paper!

So I started by cutting out Eileen's new Pocket Notebook, keeping the full width of the spine so I could have five signatures or spaces for colour charts.

Love all things beachy, the colours, the textures and of course the fabulous images. I love the Cadence Rusty Patina's and the effects you can create. I started by adding Patina Brown around all the edges and the spine, using a stencil brush.

Then using the same method of application added the Patina Mold Green, blending it out into the Patina Brown.

The to add a few highlights I stippled on a little of the Ecru. This knocks back the dark colours and makes the Notebook a little more coastal shabby.

Don't forget when the spine is folded you can see the white of the Matt Board, so add a little more Patina to get rid of the white.

Next I added my design using one of the Cadence stencils I brought back from my trip over to their academy in August. It has a mix of coastal designs and is perfect for the cover. I used a mix of both white and black gesso through the stencil.

To stay with the organic feel of the notebook I used Sari Silk to create somewhere for my charts to slip into, instead of elastic. I only used three sections, and to add decoration to the outside, I tied all the strands  together in the centre. I will hunt out some shell charms to add on later.

Love how this one turned out, I am so pleased. And I can have fun creating the charts to fit inside now.
